European carpets from the early part of the twentieth century are sometimes distinguished by their inventiveness, based on a re-interpretation of classical decorative motifs. Here we see an ivory background constellated with blue-grey five pointed stars, which is an element that we sometimes find on Aubussons of the Empire period, framed by a traditional floral border. This type of ornamental spareness will later become of the most recurrent stylistic features of modernist carpets.
