Tuareg Reed Carpet
Northwest Africa
Mauritania
Circa 1940
416 x 265 cm (138 x 88)

Notes: Reeds embroidered with polychrome leather
Made to decorate the floor of the tents of the Tuareg nomads of northwest Africa, these ethnic weavings have recently come to the forefront of contemporary design. The contrast between the leather embroidered areas and the reeds create a pleasing two tone effect based on neutral and earth colours, and make them ideal complements in interiors of both traditional and ethnic taste.
