A Collection of Exquisite Small Persian Tribal Weavings

Pile bag face or mat
Afshar tribe
Southern Persia
Circa 1880
55 x 48 cm (21.5 x 19 in.)

Knot count: 16 H x 12 V = 192 kpsi.
Colours: red, orange (fugitive),maroon, peach, medium blue, dark blue, ivory (7).
Condition: as itís missing all around the perimeter it is difficult to ascertain whether it is a large bag face (some are known with this dotted pattern on a blue backbground) or a mat. With the exception of the dark blue background most of the colours have suffered from exposure to direct sunlight.
Notes: I purchased this piece on a special NYC rug hunting day, becoming a gift for my 35th birthday. As such this has always been part of my private collection (which, incidentally, has a large component of Afshar tribal weavings).
Provenance: Besharís, New York.

Not for sale.
