Previous

37.
Pile and flatwoven horse cover
Qashqai tribe
Southern Persia
Circa 1910
154 x 141 cm (60.5 x 55.5 in.)

Colours: coral red, orange, sky blue, medium blue, dark blue, pale yellow, green, dark brown, ivory (9).
Condition: excellent, complete in every respect.
Notes: just like the pile woven donkey trapping we saw earlier, this is another woven evidence of the importance the Qashqai gave to animal trappings. Of all the ones I have seen so far of this group this is the only example where the main field is framed by camel trains.
Provenance: Teheran trade (circa 1970), Edi Egli Collection, St. Gallen.
