A Collection of Exquisite Small Persian Tribal Weavings

Sumak chanta
Qashqai Confederacy
Southern Persia
Circa 1880
24 x 23 cm (9 x 8.5 in.)

Knot count: 20 wrapping wefts/inch.
Colours: rust red, maroon-purple, light blue, medium blue, dark blue, yellow, pistachio green, dark brown, ivory (9).
Condition: excellent, complete with back.
Notes: I have been seen these attributed to the Qashqai, and when I finally owned one I realized why: its that pistachio green we see on their finer and earlier kilims and which I personally always equate to the Qashqai - just like that characteristic shade of aubergine we see on early Cappadocian rugs.
Provenance: Teheran trade (circa 1970), Edi Egli Collection, St. Gallen.
