Circa 1830
30 x 45 cm. (12 x 18 in.)

Knot count: 40 wrapping wefts/inch.
Colours: red, pink, rust, maroon, apricot, light blue, dark blue, blue-green, green, camel, brown, ivory (12).
Condition: rewoven top light green outer stripe. The striped back shows some strong oxidation in the browns and is detached at its sides.
Notes: One of the finest and oldest sumak bags I ever handled. There are large amounts of silk, particularly in the border (ivory, light blue and pink). A good comparable is in John Wertime, ‘Sumak Bags of Northwest Persia & Transcaucasia’, London 1998, plate 70, p. 127.
