9.
a medallion and pendants rug
senneh
west persia
circa 1880
cm 144 x 196 (4'9" x 6'5")

Notes: symmetrical knot on a cotton foundation
In this Senneh the demands of the commissioner do not entirely overshadow the rug's tradition, and thus the fineness of weave is integrated with an extraordinary chromatic force, this being typical of Kurdish weavings. The unusual and fascinating apricot background contrasts energetically with the deep light blue of the medallion.
