cm 120 x 170 (4'2" x 5'8")

Notes: asymmetrical knot on a cotton foundation
An extremely elegant rug decorated by a directional design consisting of an ivory niche containing rows of trees which sprout pears and pomegranates (the latter being symbols of fertility) together with leafs and elaborate palmettes of various shapes. Figurative rugs such as this one are great examples of nineteenth century Persian carpet art, which sometimes manage to achieve an almost surreal expression, communicating a message that trascends the more immediate pictorial representation.
