This antique square Agra rug with Mughal shrub pattern is an excellent example for Agra’s renowned and refined elegance. Many were commissioned by British nobility during the colonial era to grace their castles and palaces. This exquisite example, in excellent condition, features a stunning burgundy background with what is considered the most beautiful floral shrub pattern from the Mughal dynasty.

The design masterfully balances a wide, teal-green border adorned with large cartouches, stylized birds, scrolling cloud bands, and palmettes. Its unique and practical square format suggests it was commissioned for a specific room.

Agras are the pinnacle of decorative carpets, blending Mughal classicism with a palette appealing to Western tastes.
