A fine wool rug woven in the Hereke workshops in Turkey, decorated in the French Aubusson style. French decors were extremely fashionable among the turn-of-the-century Turkish High Society. Sumptuous examples of this style, often referred to as ‘Mejid’, can be seen in the architectural masterpieces in Istanbul such as the Dolmabahce Palace.
